Plus House Japan by Mount Fuji Architects Studio

This stunning Plus House is a modern concrete japanese house design is designed by japanese couple architects Masahiro (36) and Mao (33) Harada, who founded Mount Fuji Architects Studio in the Shizuoka Prefecture in 2004. Plus House shows off their talents at being bold but not grandiose, and at involving the surrounding nature in delicate detail but without giving up the individuality and presence of the building.

The house has two main blocks at 90-degree angles, the Plus House appears from above to form an almost complete cross or a plus-sign. The opulent weekend villa juts out of a mountainside in a popular holiday area known for its hot springs, in Shizuoka Prefecture on Japan’s main island of Honshu.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the deceptively simple two-level concrete structure has private rooms and a bath on the lower level, and salon and kitchen on the upper. The water for the bedrooms and bath comes directly from a natural hot spring. The exterior is clad entirely in white water-polished marble with surface texture changing gradually toward the outer tips of the blocks from rough to mirror-smooth. The interior is also covered in white marble that reflects the blue light from the south (ocean) and green light from the west (forest).

Sumaré House by Isay Weinfeld Arquitecto

This spacious two-storey house design of Sumaré House is designed by Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld for a graphic designer in Sao Paulo, Brazil with a studio situated below street level opening onto a garden. The owner of this Sumare House desired a “spacious house, where she could work, exercise, entertain friends and, of course, live in.”. Completed in 2007 , This sumare house also includes a space for ballet and a swimming pool on the upper floor, next to the clients bedroom.

Due to height restriction laws, the building could not exceed 2 floors, thus an underground floor was needed for the caretaker’s quarters and the atelier. Both spaces open to a lawn so the feeling of being underground is forgotten. On the middle floor, a few steps above street level, a sitting and dinning room open to a larger lawn.

In the living room, a long étagère displays the owner’s collection, ranging from works of art to design and vintage objects. The home also includes a swimming pool and a dance floor for the designer to practice ballet routines, in addition to entertaining areas, two bedrooms and all other rooms suitable to a residence.

For her private bedroom, the space is enclosed only by a screen of pre-cast concrete blocks, allowing the designer to see the city skyline in the distance. On the top level, a spacious wooden deck provides ample room for an outdoor entertaining area.

The Laidley House by Zack | de Vito Architecture

Zack de Vito Architecture have designed the Laidley House, a single family residence with their two children located on a typical 25′x100′ San Francisco, California infill lot. This modern residence was designed and built by the Architect owners Zack de Vito Architecture with just over 3,000 sq ft, three + bedrooms three bathrooms and an open plan living floor with dramatic views of the City, the Bay and the Bay Bridge.

The construction was completed BuiltForm Construction company. The house was designed and built with sustainability in mind using appropriate materials, systems and construction techniques. In addition to the now standard fare of reclaimed, rapid renewable, low toxicity materials, photovoltaic electric and solar hydronic systems, one of the more innovative construction approaches was a panelized framing systems, with 90% of the framing produced off site and assembled in 3 1/2 weeks.

The Laidley House design is modern and open, expressive of materials, detail and craft, yet it was easily assimilated into its urban context of older houses. The attention to detail is best exemplified by the interior stair custom fabricated from water jet cut steel stringers, acrylic treads and steel and glass guardrails.
